I got a happy email this week. Stephanie Norman saw my quilt Fall Beauty on the cover of the October 2018 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting and made two fantastic versions of it! I love that she added a beautiful wide border with leaves of every color just as we see them at this time of the year. Flawless execution!
The main block has been rotated in the same direction on each row creating a more linear design. This is the fun part about working with someone else’s pattern: you can improve upon it as Stephanie did.
Stephanie’s version 2 has more muted tones to go along with the border she chose. This pattern is very versatile and Stephanie shows it as she works the blocks into a smaller version. I can envision the quilts in her home with two pillows made with each of the blocks. Well, Stephanie, since you liked the design so much!
Her fabric selection is amazing on both quilts, and I like how she introduced a print in the center square of the alternate block, giving it more depth. Stephanie got the fabrics from her mom’s quilt store – Sarah’s Thimble Quilt Shoppe in Virginia Beach, VA – is she lucky or what?
My Fall Beauty has been in my family room since I got it back from the magazine. It will be there until the end of November because it brings the harvest colors inside.
Thank you for sending me the photos, Stephanie! Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend,
