Strip Quilts

By Denise Russell

It is no wonder the front cover of this book features a heart. As I was reading it for this review, I could not believe how many patterns I loved, and all in one neat packet! The Big Book of Strip Quilts – Start with Strips to Make 60 Stunning Quilts by Martingale, features quilts using 2-1/2″ strips by creative designers who, whether using precuts or cutting yardage into strips, turned them into an amazing selection of projects.

At times using strips from one fabric line, other times mixing them with strips from other collections, the inspired designers show us how to use strips in 60 ways: make them twirl into modified pinwheel blocks, shine as double stars, dazzle as a kaleidoscope, or charm with a modern vibe. Can you tell I like this book?

“Journeys” by Susan Guzman, above, might also look pretty cool with a brighter palette as the quilt below.

“Buttoned Up”, by Gerry Robinson, is so playful and colorful! The orange buttons tie the design together.

“Island Chain” by Kim Brackett is gorgeous…

“Porch Swing”, also by Kim Brackett, is reminiscent of the Fourth of July holidays I spent at the beach…

… and I have not shown you my personal favorites! With straightforward instructions and lots of diagrams, you will be heading to your quilt room in no time after opening The Big Book of Strip Quilts. Don’t take my word for it!

I am out of town so all I can do is dream of converting my stash into strips, or using the jelly rolls I have. In the meantime, I hope this review has been helpful to you. Check out the tab “Book Reviews” and click on the titles to read the post where I reviewed each book.

Happy sewing day,
