[Edited on January 13, 2020] Everyone loves to receive a handmade gift. These quilted mug rugs will make your friends happy and will use up your stash. Because these mug rugs have no binding they are fast to make. Remember those leftover blocks you did not know how to use? Forget potholders! Enjoy their beauty every day in your studio, office, or by the couch after you transform them into mug rugs. Mug rugs absorb water, prevent spills, and add color to your day. Flannel bag
I checked out my stash of flannels and found these leftover rectangles from a quilt I made for myself a while ago (see it here and here). Since I really like those Woolies, I decided to use them all in a tote for yours truly. This is the back side. I stitched all the pieces in a big rectangle, marked the pleates with a pin and stitched 1/8" from the edge to secure them. I then chose a lining fabric, cut a rectangle of it with matching size, marked and secured the pleats. I added a large … [Read more...] about Flannel bag
Fabric Saucer
You guys have been making mug rugs for a while now, but I hadn't yet wanted to make one until this week. I saw a pattern for a paper-pieced plate, or saucer, in a book and I new right there and then I had to make one. Or four... If it weren't for all the interruptions I had yesterday, I would have finished them a lot quicker, and would have made some more. Paper-piecing has an addictive effect on me - once I get over the first block I do not want to stop making them! I used a lot of my … [Read more...] about Fabric Saucer
Applique in the USA
I am trying to get ahead of the game by working on Christmas gifts. I remember I had two of these blocks from a wall hanging I made a little while ago (and gave to someone, don't remember who, and did not keep a picture...). So, I made another table runner with one heart with stars on each end, and four layer cake pieces in between, separated by sashing. There is only one border, pieced; the backing has the same fabrics pieced in squares. As in my previous project, this table runner is also … [Read more...] about Applique in the USA
Batik table topper
Just finished this table topper made with batiks, except for one fabric (I wonder if you can figure which one it is!). I had a few 60 degree triangles - cut from stratas - leftover from a quilt I made last year. When I saw those triangles today I just had to make something with them. This table topper is another example of a self-binding project: place quilt top right side up onto batting (cut to the exact measurements and shape of quilt top), put backing onto quilt top (right sides … [Read more...] about Batik table topper
Laminate Table Runner II
I finished this table runner a few days ago - it turned out super cute, if I may say so... I used laminates by Riley Blake Designs, and made it a bit different from my last one (see post here). The folks at Riley Blake liked my first laminate table runner idea so much that they asked me to make a tutorial for them. So, for step-by-step instructions, please go here. It is fun and easy to assemble, and because the beautiful fabrics are laminated, it will not get ruined in the kitchen (although my … [Read more...] about Laminate Table Runner II
