Chocolate + quilting = happy day!

By Denise Russell

You must have seen recipes on the web for cakes in a cup. I had not attempted to make one yet until my mom called from Brazil the other day and started raving about this cake she made in three minutes using the microwave. So, I had to try it.

In fact, I gathered the ingredients on the kitchen counter, right before my boys arrived from school with a friend in tow. They washed their hands and, each with his own bowl, started mixing the batter.

It took us waaaaay longer to prepare the cake because the boys were making jokes, laughing, making me get all confused as I was translating the recipe for them, until we had to discard the first batch…

We finally got their cakes ready to microwave. The boys loved it! So today, after Chris and Ryan left for school, I make my own chocolate breakfast… Perfect way to get geared up for some quilting!

Here is the recipe I used in case you need a chocolate fix:

***
Cake in a Cup

1 egg
4 tbsp milk
4 level tbsp sugar
3 tbsp oil
2 tbsp cocoa powder (I used Hershey’s)
4 tbsp flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
drops of vanilla extract
— Mix it well in a small bowl, pour in mug or cup (I sprayed the cup with cooking spray), and microwave it for 3 minutes.
****
Yummy! It helped me finish my project for tomorrow’s Strip-easy Quilt Challenge here at this blog. It will be fun to see all the different ideas. See you then 🙂

This looks delicious. Do you need to melt the baking chocolate squares first before putting it in the cup? This looks like a fun cake to try.
